Infosys opts out of campus hiring for another term; TCS plans to resume next year

Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, has announced that it will once again skip campus hiring for the second consecutive quarter. Outgoing Chief Financial Officer Nilanjan Roy mentioned during a press conference after declaring the December quarter results that there is currently no immediate campus hiring requirement. However, he emphasized that Infosys maintains a robust off-campus program and is prepared to adapt if there is an uptick in demand.

This decision marks the second consecutive quarter of campus hiring being skipped by Infosys, with the company evaluating its hiring plans each quarter based on demand. The company's headcount decreased by 6,101 in the quarter ending December 31, resulting in a total of 322,663 employees. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter in which Infosys has seen a decline in its headcount.

Despite the decrease in headcount, Infosys reported a decline in attrition, settling at 12.9 percent, down from the previous quarter's 14.6 percent on a last-twelve-month basis.

In contrast, rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has taken a different approach and has already commenced its campus hiring process for the next year. Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer at TCS, expressed the company's commitment to hiring from college campuses and mentioned the significant enthusiasm among freshers to join TCS.

TCS also experienced a decline in employee headcount, with a reduction of 5,680 in the quarter. However, the company remains focused on hiring talent organically and nurturing its workforce through campus recruitment.
